There is no doubt that pregnancy exerciseis both exceptional and required for you to do now that your watching out for two (unless your doctor has actually told you otherwise!).
Exercise will help you minimize your pregnancy related signs, handle your weight gain and speed up your post-partum healing time. You MUST make sure that whatever you choose to do is SAFE for both you and your baby.
I worked out throughout my pregnancy, but I only chose to do workouts that I delighted in doing – like strolling and swimming.
I particularly liked swimming since it was non-weight bearing and it cooled me off (which was a huge help for my pregnancy-related getting too hot!).
For those of you who are looking for more than simply swimming or strolling, I’ve selected 5 concerns from my customers that look at different pregnancy exercises and ask the question, “Is this exercise SAFE?”.
( Please note: all of the following opinions presume that the customer has been given the OK to exercise by her family practitioner.).
Subscriber Question # 1:.
” As a fitness instructor, for how long I can continue doing high impact movements?”.
My Opinion:.
I’m assuming that because you’re a fitness trainer you remain in good condition, which would make it all right to continue working out during your pregnancy at a moderate strength level – around 70-75% of your optimum heart rate (if you’re not in good shape, aim for around 60-65%!).
I’m not a huge fan of high impact motions (i.e. leaping, step class etc.) due to the fact that they can be jarring on your joints (which are already carrying a big enough load).
Your center of gravity changes, which implies you’re going to be much more most likely to fall or injure yourself.
So, I recommend adhering to low-impact exercises, like swimming.
You’ll discover it much better on your body – specifically when your stomach begins getting bigger!
Subscriber Concern # 2:.
” Now that I’m pregnant, can I run up and down my stairs for exercise?”.
My Viewpoint:.
Great question! Although the majority of us have stairs in our home or office, I would not recommend it for an exercise. Adding and down stairs umpteen times might look like an easy pregnancy workout to do, but it’s actually rather exhausting.
You need to remain in very good shape – believe me, I used to get my elite athletes to do this!
Picking stairs instead of an elevator, however, is not a bad idea if you’re just searching for a little activity occasionally (just be close to the railing in case you lose your balance!).
For a better workout, put on your running shoes and go for a brisk walk.
Customer Concern # 3:.
” Can I do stomach work to keep control over my love handles (fat on the sides of my belly)?”.
My Opinion:.
I understand you’re not going to like my response, and now’s NOT the time to fret about your love handles.
Specific experts say that stomach work is safe during pregnancy, I would not recommend it. Rather focus on core fortifying exercises (including training your transverse stomach muscles – the deep ones!) and wait until after your child is born to deal with toning your stomach!
Now that does not imply that you must let go of yourself, rest on the couch and eat the house – no other way! It means take care of yourself, keep active, consume healthy foods – and you’ll have LESS of a task taking it off after you deliver.
Customer Question # 4:.
” I’m very worried about placing on excess weight, can I still do my 1-hour a day exercise including Body Combat, Body Attack, dancing and running?”.
My Viewpoint:.
The basic guideline concerning workout during pregnancy is that you CAN continue to do what you were doing pre-pregnancy as long as you lower your strength to a moderate level.
I’m not quite sure what Body Fight and Body Attack classes are, but if they’re high impact (leaping) and aggressive (striking), I ‘d suggest you trying something else.
Workouts like the elliptical fitness instructor, low impact aerobics, or deep water running (a very difficult exercise when you’ve got the best kind!) are much better choices.
Pregnancy is not the time to attempt and enhance your fitness level – rather it’s the time to preserve your existing level as finest you can (remember, you’re now working for 2!).
Subscriber Concern # 5:.
” Is it possible to tone my lower body while I’m pregnant?”.
My Opinion:.
YES! Some fantastic workouts that you can do now to tone your lower body are lunges, inner thigh squeezes, leg extensions, and bottom raises off the ball.
Now you’re not going to be doing extreme legwork, so you most likely will not see extreme results. However every little bit assists and it WILL make you feel a great deal better about the method you look (believe me!).
I would nevertheless beware about other pregnancy workouts – for instance, avoid anything that puts pressure on your back, like the leg press device!
Good question! Many of us have stairs in our house or workplace, I wouldn’t advise it for an exercise. Running up and down stairs umpteen times may appear like a simple pregnancy exercise to do, but it’s really rather laborious.
Certain experts state that abdominal work is safe during pregnancy, I would not advise it.
