Binge-purge syndrome, also called bulimia nervosa, is a mental eating disorder which generally strikes ladies between the ages of 15 to 25. Studies suggest that by their first year of college, 4.5 to 18 percent of ladies and 0.4 percent of males have a history of bulimia.

Bulimia is identified by episodes of binge eating followed by purging. The desire for food and sweet is extremely strong and at the same time the individual attempt to minimize weight.

This triggers a strong conflict in between the desire to consume and the desire to reduce weight.

To handle the conflict they utilize improper techniques of weight control including throwing up, fasting, enemas, extreme use of laxatives and diuretics, or compulsive exercising. A duration of binge eating produces strong sensations of guilt.

For an individual with bulimia, confidence is strongly based on the shape and weight of the body. There are resemblances between anorexia and bulimia relating to the worry of ending up being fat and the desire to minimize weight.

It’s not uncommon that anorexia typically becomes bulimia. Almost half of those with anorexia will have bulimia nervosa. The conditions overlap.

Research studies have revealed that conditions in household relations can be one of the factors that adds to bulimia. Challenging periods of time or modifications like the age of puberty, death in the family or other household crisis can trigger bulimia nervosa.

The teenager feels she can’t control her world, but can control her weight. Considering much of those with bulimia are perfectionists, they bring the weight control to the extreme.

Bulimia nervosa can trigger extreme medical complications. There is a danger for damages that will become permanent.

These can consist of damages to the heart, lungs and other significant organs. It is yet unidentified if bulimia can harm the brain in any way.

If untreated, bulimia can cause death.
